RECYCLED BROKEN CONCRETE has long been a favorite paving or veneering material. In addition, recycling old concrete from sidewalks is an environmentally friendly and innovative use of a ubiquitous building material. The aged look of broken concrete adds a sense of history and character that is both unique and local.
According to a designer interviewed recently in Sunset Magazine, “If concrete is used well, it looks rich. People respond to it, often without knowing what it is. Each piece (of broken concrete) is imbued with a story – they’re reincarnations from other cement existences. Using it adds to the narrative of the garden.”
